SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The position leverages an individual’s skills and experience to support the product development process. Technicians are counted on to complete R&D project work, including:

•              Setting up equipment for trials

•              Equipment modification

•              Equipment installation

•              Product fabrication

•              Testing activities

The technician typically functions as a project team member.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

1.1 Product Development

•              Performs most product fabrication activities, including machine setup, die and extruder cleaning, production reporting, process modifications, and product fabrication.

•              Troubleshoots processes and equipment to achieve desired product outcomes and performs corrective actions when needed.

•              Assists with capturing trial documentation and product analysis, including trial reports, extended testing, and communication of trial information and next step recommendations.

•              Purchases required materials such as laboratory supplies, testing equipment, and raw materials.

Process Development

•              Fabricates new pieces of equipment or equipment modifications to meet new product objectives.

•              Assists with new equipment installation and process startup.

•              Purchases items for capital project requests and equipment modifications as directed.

•              Assists in clarification of process requirements for new equipment purchases or modifications.

•              Assists in qualification of new equipment vendors or converters.

•              Writes training manuals for new or modified equipment/products as needed.

1.2 Analytical Testing

•              Performs product testing to ensure products meet customer requirements.

•              Trains production staff on new test methods implemented on commercialized products.

•              Performs in house laboratory testing as needed, including polymer and product analysis.

•              Sources and purchases laboratory equipment and supplies.

•              Performs incoming and routine inspection on equipment to verify specifications.

RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

•              Purchases operating supplies as needed to support group needs.

•              Provides cross functional support to other departments.

•              Performs building maintenance tasks as required.

•              Participates in additional projects or tasks assigned by the Research and Development Manager as corporate needs arise.

QUALIFICATIONS

•              A.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)

•              0–3 years of relevant experience
