Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Work Definition: Work is closely supervised by manager or more senior staff. Work assignments encompass a well-defined set of tasks requiring fundamental principles, theories and concepts. May be assigned to participate in projects. Assist with planning and coordination of operations processes for assigned product(s); design new systems and processes for the improvement of new & existing products or for the introduction of new products

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for one or two product lines
  • Reduce waste using lean manufacturing methods
  • Monitor modifications and upgrades, and troubleshooting existing processes
  • Handle assigned Stop Lines / ICARs
  • ECOs - assist with ECs
  • Process Certification / develop and maintain product PQPs
  • Maintain BOMs structure for assigned products
  • Help develop material for Customer Visits / Audits / Monthly Quality Reviews

Breadth and Depth of Knowledge: Utilizes learned principles, theories, concepts, and techniques. Follows standard practices and procedures. Emphasis is on learning company processes and nuances related to the job.

  • Data driven analysis and presentation (SPC)
  • Mechanical or electrical aptitude
  • Conduct Gage R&R
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, MS Project, etc.
  • Lean manufacturing techniques and methods
  • Basic understanding of statistical methods
  • Bonding/Epoxy/optics (mirrors)
  • Design of fixtures, SolidWorks and Automation
  • Total preventive maintenance a Plus

Complex and Critical Thinking: Provides resolution to a variety of basic problems. Follows established practices with limitations in using judgment outside of those practices. Work is reviewed frequently. Analyzes and plans space requirements and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and work space for maximum efficiency

  • FACARs (24 days or less) Root Cause determination
  • NMRs (48 hr disposition)
  • No Problem Found - tactical resolution
  • Line layout / equipment list / tools / fixturing / calibration / PM

Contacts and Impact: Contacts are typically with direct supervisor and other members of the team. Failure to successfully accomplish tasks can normally be corrected without significant impact.

  • Meet with vendors for equipment purchase or materials purchase
